Ear Candling (ear coning) is a relaxing process of cleansing the inner cavities of the ear using a hollow candle. The tapered end of the candle is inserted into the ear. The other end is lit on fire. This creates a subtle vacuum that slowly draws residue out of the ear, in a way similar to how even heating occurs in a pot due to convection currents. Often, the candle is inserted into something such as a pie pan, to protect the individual in the event that bits of hot candle fall. When the candle burns to only a few inches tall then it is cut beneath the flame and the process is complete. Ear candling may get rid of impacted ear wax deposits and fungus. Often times, people claim to have better hearing after candling. The procedure can also improve balance, as your ears are essential for this. Those with ear aches also find that candling can resolve pain. Many have seen improvements in smell, taste, and vision. Candling may also clear the sinuses.
